While traditional analog and ISDN phones use a separate, dedicated physical network or wires to connect to phone centers and networks, IP phones utilize the existing IT network or the Internet for the same purpose. These computer networks predominantly use the so-called Internet Protocol (IP), hence the name IP phone.

Is IP Telephony Cheaper or More Expensive?
